Graphite

About Graphite

Graphite is the crystalline form of carbon – six hexagonally arranged carbon atoms that form two dimensional lattices is the basic structure of graphite. Graphite is considered a critical mineral as demand for it is increasing rapidly. The rise demand is due to its use as a raw material in growing industries such as carbon brush, battery manufacturing, friction materials, lubricant manufacturing and more.

There are 3 types of naturally occurring graphite; flake, amorphous, and vein graphite. Of the 3 types, Sri Lanka is the only country where vein graphite can be mined in large quantities.

Graphite Vein

Vein graphite just mined has a carbon content above 90%, sometimes even a purity level of over 97%. Vein graphite is valued for its superior performance in thermal and electrical conductivity, which results from a higher degree of crystalline perfection. Vein graphite has more energy density, and also the highest degree of cohesive energy

The export of vein graphite is another primary business activity for Rock Technologies (Pvt) Ltd. In that regard, we have partnered with multiple graphite quarries in Sri Lanka for the export of vein graphite.
